Moving to Cambridge: the Basics

Cambridge is home to one of the top five Universities in the world, the aptly named ‘University of Cambridge’. So if you’re thinking of moving to London, it definitely should rank high on your list – especially if you’re looking for a centre of education. Cambridge is also a fantastic area for the tech heads, as it is located at the heart of the ‘Silicon Fen’ – the technological think tank of London.
So there’s plenty of reasons to move to Cambridge. However, there are many things you need to keep in mind. How is your move going to play out? Are you going to hire a moving company? These are just a couple of examples of the questions you’ve got to ask yourself when you’re making a move. Here are some of the basics.
- Figure out whether you’ll be hiring a Cambridge moving company or hiring a van yourself.
- Get all of your packing supplies together, and do the packing properly.
- Prepare yourself for the journey.
Figure out whether you’re going to be hiring a moving company, or if you’re going to save some money and hire a van yourself. There are up sides and down sides to both. A moving company is more expensive, but is more convenient – they will handle most of the work for you, like the transport and the loading and unloading. If you hire a van, you’ll be saving money but at the cost of more work. Remember, regardless of which one you choose, be sure to research more than one firm. Just to make sure that you choose the one that’s right for you.
Proper packing is a pivotal part of moving home, and to make sure you get it right you’ll have to get a hold of the proper tools and supplies. At a basic level, you’ll need;
- A good amount of sturdy moving boxes for putting everything in
- Bubble wrap to keep everything protected
- Packing tape to keep your boxes closed
- Labels, so you know where everything has been packed
- A box cutter, so you can get into your boxes when you arrive.
As long as you get all of these together before you start packing, you should be able to do so with no trouble what so ever. Just remember the three top tips for keeping all of your items in one piece; Use liberal amounts of bubble wrap, don’t overload your moving boxes, and take good care when moving them about.
You’ve got to make sure you’re ready for the journey. Make sure you print off the directions to your new place. If you’re travelling with children, be sure to make some nutritious snacks to keep them happy on the road. And if you live a long way away from Cambridge, be sure to schedule a few rest stops along the way and pack some travelling blankets. Anything that’ll make the journey better for your passengers will inevitably benefit you, because you can keep your eyes and mind on the road.
The main ingredient to a successful removal is proper planning and preparation. If you’re aware of the best ways to handle most situations, then the whole operation is going to go more smoothly as a result.
